Why So Many People Are Loving Fantasy Sports

Fantasy sports are a booming market. They pull in billions of dollars annually, which is a drastic increase from its beginnings in 1963. With that said, fantasy sports have obviously come a long way from pen and paper drafts with a commissioner who receives phone calls for player movement. Thanks to the internet, being a fantasy league commissioner is easier than ever. Fantasy sports websites do all of the heavy lifting. They track player movement, player scoring and even give detailed recaps of each week's games.

There are sites for fans of all sports. Everything from the NFL to NASCAR is covered. By becoming a fantasy team owner you are given the keys to the franchise. You dictate which players are drafted, who gets traded and who rides the bench. Whether or not your team makes the playoffs is completely up to you. Benching a player who has a monster week can have huge fantasy ramifications when the money is on the line.

There are a number of ways to play these ever-popular games. There are yearly leagues, weekly leagues and even keeper leagues. Yearly leagues allow owners to draft a team at the beginning of the regular season and make roster moves as they deem necessary. Weekly leagues allow players to redraft each week. These leagues also allow for weekly payouts. Keeper leagues are for the most diehard fantasy fans. Owners draft a team and keep a handful of players from year to year. Depending on the league, there may also be fees for player movement, which will help drive up the amount of money in the pot.

Fantasy sports allow fans to cultivate a greater knowledge and understanding of the league and its players. Those who participate can keep tabs on player stats, injury updates and who is the best of the best at their given position. Not to mention, if a fantasy owner's favorite team is out of contention, fantasy provides a great fall back. Instead of not paying attention for the rest of the season, fans can continue to be engaged and root for the sport they love.

Fantasy sports websites provide men and women an outlet for their competitive spirit. On a weekly basis, many people go head to head with coworkers and the ones they love to determine who the best fantasy owner is. These head-to-head matchups come along with plenty of posturing and trash talking that makes these games that much more fun. Some leagues play for money, trophies or just bragging rights. No matter what the end game is, the competition is sure to be heated. Thanks to fantasy league websites, players can enjoy friendly competition without actually having to gear up and hit the field.
